My name

My Korean name is Min Kyu Kang. First of all, the reason why I chose an English name to use in ISKL was because I thought that my name was too girlish. All the other people say that it’s not true but I don’t know why I still think that. Actually, I kind of understand why, because in Korea, you read it as Min Gyu Gang but it is read as Min Kyu Kang in the foreign countries. My name wasn’t inherited but named by the pedigree that was passed from my ancestors. My name seems unnaturally empty. I once asked my mom and she didn’t accept the fact that my name was either girlish or empty. When I still wasn’t satisfied with the rather boring lecture, she told me that my name actually has a meaning. Oh well, how boring would it mean I thought as I signaled her to continue. Firstly, she told me that long time ago, Korea used Chinese language until King SaeJong had created the Korean. Still, most of our name has a Chinese meaning. Korean surnames are always based on the name of the city or the area around. So Kang means the Geongju Province, South to Seoul, Min and Kyu basically means a shiny and bright jade. In the old days, only the emperors were allowed to keep a jade since it was one of the most precious things in the world. I had nodded reluctantly and silently went back into my room to consider my name more carefully with more respect. I let myself lay sprawled on the bed staring at the clean and white ceiling. As I reconsidered, I learned profuse facts such as that my name meant a jade which was shiny, precious and clean like the ceiling in my room. The more I thought about my name, the more I began to think positively. I had a barely visible memory of a jade. It was an emerald jade and it might have been the most beautiful thing I had seen in my life. It was even smaller than my palm but the shape and the outline of it was glorious and completely fascinating. The magnificent jade… my name… When I came back to my senses, I had realized that I was smiling by the fact that my name is a precious jade. Unlike before, I started to think that my name wasn’t girlish but powerful and precious and that my name wasn’t empty but full and rich with the colorful sunlight glinting off my name which was a jade. From now on, I won’t be ashamed of my Korean name.

Luttrell Psalter

Psalms also known as Psalter are 150 ancient songs grouped to form one of the old testament in the Bible. They also took a great part in Christian and Judaism.
Luttrell Psalter are one volume from the Bible usually separated out from the Bible. They are the prayers in a church feasts. Luttrell Psalter is also a primary source because it was achieved from the people in the Middle ages.
The reason it is considered unique is because it has been written for the religion purposes unlike other psalters. Also it's been written carefully with rich explanations and details for the religion it's been directed to.

Learning Profiles

We all have a learning profile which effects our study habits and our skill. For example, I am a double B. There are a lot of information about what I should do, where do I sit or how I learn best. For me, I learn best when I sit at the front of the class on the right side of the classroom for my dominant left ear to listen well. I need to SEE the instruction for me to do well like someone demonstrating what I should do. It is because I am a visual and verbal learner. The strategies that would help me learning is that I really need to visualize and understand what is going on in class because I often have problem with it. Lastly, I would like teachers to know that when I am under stress, I can't concentrate and can't memorize anything that's going on in the class. I have to wait for my stress level to go down before I can concentrate back again. I think that learning and studying about my profile is a really worthy thing to do because it can effect our study which means that it would also effect our grade which might lead into our future.

Taking a Stand

There were several choices for non-Jewish people including many Germans. The choices were that they follow the Nazi, do as they say and live peacefully. The other choice was that they don't do anything either helping Nazi or helping the Jew. The last choice was to help Jews and get punished by being tried and beheaded. If I was the German with several choices laid out before me, I would have thought of my safety first or my family if I had one. Therefore, I would stand by without doing anything. However, I would never do things that Nazi had done to the Jews. I would think of my family as the first priorities.

Propaganda and analyzing visual images

Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. Adolf Hitler and Nazis used propaganda because it would have been hard to convince people to fight in a war when they are already in such a bad economy. However, the solution for the Nazis and Hitler was that people desired and craved for a better world to live in for themselves and their children. If Hitler posted a picture of a happy family with nothing to worry about, they would really want that to happen to themselves. With just little touch saying that their family could easily be like the one in the family if they follow the rules of Nazis and vote for them, people would certainly vote for the Nazis and Hitler. They used this to basically get a control over the citizens of Germany and to start what they want. A war.

Analyzing Visual Images

1.What I see in the picture is a happy family with father, mother, two boys and two girls. They are all smiling as if they are living in heaven without anything to worry about. Even though the color is black and white due to the lack of technology, they are placed in places where it's appropriate for a family picture. One girl is waving her arms in the air as if she was already as happy as she could be. It is certain that the family is seriously delighted.
2. Interpret: I think that the creator was trying to let the world know that if we are in power, you will be able to live just like the happy family without having to worry about anything.
Evaluate: I think the purpose of the picture is to let the citizens of Germany see the photo and vote for them. So basically, the intended audience was the citizens of Germany. I think that it has succeeded because at that time, Germany was in hyperinflation which means that they were in pain. They would have the hope of being happy if the creator of the happy family photo was in power. I am sure that the intended audience would vote for the creator of the photo.

SPD, CPD, Nazi

I think Eric von Ronheim would stand by Nazi. I have several reasons. The first reason is that one part of the promises that Nazi made was to abandon the Treat of Versailles. Eric von Ronheim wanted the taxes to go down which seemed impossible for him since Germany had to pay the debt to the other countries. However, if Nazi had power and they didn't follow the Treaty of Versaillies, the taxes would surely go down. That's my first reason I think Eric would vote for SPD. The second reason is that Eric considers Communists a real threat to Germany. Also, the Nazi hates communists just like Eric von Ronheim. He is a business man who can't even pay off the taxes. If he wants to live on without starving, he would need the tax to go down for him to live better. Nazi party promise profuse things that would change the world just perfect for Eric. It would only make sense if he chooses to vote for Social Democratic Party.

Anger and Humiliation and the Voices in the Dark

Anger and Humilation
Adolf Hitler joined the party for the anti-jews and for their own rights outside of Treaty of Versailles. The two parts in the program that I think is unfair are:
1. The state insures that every citizen live decently and earn his livelihood. If it is impossible to provide food for the whole population, then aliens must be expelled

2. All newspapers must be published in the German language by German citizns and owners.

The reason why I think they are unfair is because you can't travel back to your country if you migrated to Germany that easely. That citizen would need profuse money for transportation and finding a new house. Maybe even the rich families couldn't migrate back not to mention the poor families without money. For the another part in the program, I think that it is unfair because even if anyone in Germany would want to protest and announce to the world about the cruelty of the Germans, the Germany govermnent would surely stop them from doing so. It would mean that they would have no right to announce anything and what is going on to them.

Voices in the Dark
If I heard the voices talking bad about Jew when I was one, I would silently protest without informing them about my religion because doing so would lead me into a serious problem. I wouldn't make it obvious that I am on Jews side but maybe mutter a silent disagreeing statement so that at least, I won't be frustrated and it would keep my temper down.

The Religion Trip Reflection

Our religion trip was amazing. We went to Chinese Temple, Islam Mosque and Hinduism Temple. It was very interesting because I am actually Christian and I saw plenty of things that were unusual to me. However, only the methods of praying were different. Basically, the meanings and the purpose were all same. In the Islam Mosque, we weren't able to enter into the mosque because only the muslim could enter the mosque to pray. I also learned a lot things such as that Hindu worship plenty of gods, not just one or two like Christian. The similarities between the Hindu Temple and the Islam mosque was that they both had to take off their shoes. However the difference was that the Islam mosque had very tall and slim tower for someone to climb and pray when Hindu Temple had none of the tower which was tall. I could clearly see the contrast between the Hindu Temple and the Chinese Temple. It was that in Chinese Temple, all the people burned the paper and put it in the small chamber when I couldn't see any of the Hindu lighting the paper with the fire. Plus, another contrast between the Chinese Temple and Islam mosque was that the time for praying must be different since I spotted more than 10 people praying. However in Islam mosque, I only saw about three people just lying down and resting. The most interesting one was the Hindu Temple. The reason is because I saw various Gods that Hindu were worshipping such as Ganesh which was really interesting in my opinion. Our trip was really exciting and sort of fun.

Opposite

There is a post that contains the pictures of opposites. The first picture has the view of the sky and the ground. The sky is at the top of where we are standing and the ground is at the bottom from where we are standing. That's the opposite. The sky is at the top of us and the ground is at the bottom of us.
The second picture contains te view of the lake and the ground. That's another opposite because ground is solid when the lake in opposite, is made of liquid and is unsolid. We won't fall straight down if we are standing on the ground. However, we would surely drown and fall straight down if we are trying to stand in the water. These are the pictures that I took which has opposites in them.
This is the great view of the lake, mountains and the sky with sunlight glinting.
This is the another view of where we went for the field trip. This is the road we took to explore.

BISP test ch.1-8

If you disagree with a rule, law, or public policy, it is better to remain silent than to speak out and risk punishment.

Earlier, I thought it would be better to speak out and risk punishment to change what's wrong. However as I read the book, my opinion started to change. In the book, I realized how strong the power can be. It would take just a flick of a finger to order a murder to whom they think is a problem. Even if I try to speak out, I think I would be dead before I even try to make people understand the problem with the new rules, laws or public policy. It would be because the person who created the rules would be really powerful. People without the power wouldn't be able to create rules and laws for the citizens. People who aren't scared of death would try to speak out but most people would be scared of death and would try to avoid it. There would be about one person out of hundred who would volunteer to risk their lives and speak out. As I said, I thought that I should really speak out for the unfairness about the rules and laws but as I read the book, my opinion had changed and I wouldn't really be able to speak and risk my life. Even if I decide to, it would take a lot of courage and great effort.

Good Life

Living a good life has plenty of meanings. It means to be loyal to the religion you believe in, or to reach your life's destination or to help others and be respected. They are all quite different in meanings and it isn't related to one another. They have a specific meaning about what you're doing in the process of living a good life.
Most of the people in the world have a religion or a god that they follow or worship. Also, profuse of them consider living a good life is to be loyal to their gods and make them delighted. Some of them would even be prepared to risk their life to be loyal and to be faithful. To those who believe in any kind religions think that they will be honored and would be able to live in a luxury and extreme comfort if they are just loyal to their gods while they are mortal. As a Christian myself, I wouldn't disagree but I would disagree if living a good life means to only worship the gods until our death. Still most people would consider living a good life if they are just loyal and faithful.
To reach your life's destination could possibly be the most difficult thing in your life. For example, if someone desired to reach the moon and they finally did, that would mean that you reached your life's destination. However, reaching the moon isn't as easy as you think. It's same for all of us. It wouldn't be named life's destination if it was possible everytime whenver you want. However, when you finally reach your goal, you would be delighted to death and wouldn't have any regrets if you die. That's why reaching your life's destination could be considered as fulfilling the job of living a good life.
To be rich enough or to be smart enough to help others in a bad situation and be respected is not an easy task for anyone. You would need a lot of effort and I am sure it wouldn't be very smooth and easy. Certainly, you haven't seen a person helping a lot of others at the same time and be respected. You would need to study hard and try your best to reach the goal. That's why that is really difficult for all of us. It may sound like something that you can do when you're just lying down and resting, but resting would be like a dream if you're ambition is to help profuse of others.

Journey of the hero: Post 1

The book I chose to read was called 'Ark Angel'. This book's main character's name is Alex Rider. He is at the age of 14 and he is the teenager spy recruited by a national British organization called M16. Alex was sent to the hospital due to the attack of the assasin. On his last day at the hospital, he witnessed four assasions trying to kidnap a boy named Paul Drevin. Alex tried his best to save the boy since Paul had became his friend as he was healing in hospital. Even though he had severely damamged all the assasins, he was captured by a terrorists who call themselves Force Three. Alex dramatically escapes and comes back in one piece safe once again back to his house. Later, Alex had found that Paul Drevin was actually the son of the multibillionaire who wanted to repay and thank him. He was invited to the luxury no one would ever have dreamed before. While he was on his vacation with Paul and his dad since Paul's dad and mom divorced, he had found out that something was not right and that came really clear when Mr.Drevin had almost killed Alex while they were having the Go-Kart race on purpose. Alex had decided to leave them on the final journey to the America to his housekeeper named Jack Starbright. However, on the airport, he found that his passport had been expired even though he had made it only four years ago. That made him stay on the airport for 24 hours and had been sent to talk to Mr.Bryne the head of operation in the CIA. He was told that Mr.Drevin was actually the biggest criminal for he was about to send up the hotel up in the space. This project was called an Ark Angel and had used more than billions of dollars to prepare this project. Mr.Bryne had requested him to go back and enjoy the vacation with the Drevin family but report to the CIA if something goes wrong and if he finds something strange. Alex Rider had gone back to the airport and met Paul and his father as if nothing happened. They had gone to the island which Mr.Drevin had bought and where the Ark Angel was being prepared. While they were resting, Alex had been asked to the Scuba Diving with a guard down to the the ship wreck that had sunk in the World War II. Paul couldn't accompany him due to his asthma. The guard named Kolo had accompanied Alex but locked Alex on inside the ship so that Alex would drown and suffocate. The reason was because the head of the security had realized that Alex was the spy working for the M16 and the CIA. However, the Mr.Drevin's secretary had saved Alex's life for she was actually the agent for the CIA. They came up to the surface and waited for the boat to come because the secretary had heard that the boat was coming in late in the night which would mean that they would come in quietely so that no one would notice. They waited and Alex was shocked to see the Force Three who had attempted to kill Alex land on the island. At that moment, they were found by the guards and were captured. Mr.Drevin told Alex everything about his plan for he clearly thought he would be dead. Mr.Drevin's plan was that the project Ark Angel wasn't going too well and had many problems which made him want to just quit all about the Ark Angel. So he made a plan too destroy Ark Angel and still get the money back from the government without letting them noticing anything suspicous. The world still thought that Force Three was a terroists but they had actually worked for Mr.Drevin. He would pretend that they set up a bomb and to set the rocket to go directly to The Pentagon building in the US. Mr.Drevin would pretend that he didn't know about this and pretend to fight with the Force Three and have the Force Three lying on the island when the CIA and the government came to investigate. However, the force three didn't know anything about them having to lie on the ground dead. The leader named Combat Jack had asked Mr.Drevin about how he was going to fake them dying, but with a smile Mr.Drevin had shot all four of the Force Three. Alex was shocked but couldn't do anything but just get locked up and wait their death with the secretary. However, Alex escaped with the sharp shoelace that CIA had made and got the back up team to come and invade the island. Mr.Drevin was killed but the rocket had been sent. After two hours, the bomb would explode and the Ark Angel would fall to the Pentagon building. The CIA made this crazy idea about sending Alex up to the space and to deactivate the bomb. Finally Alex was sent up to the space with a rocket towards the Ark Angel. This was where I finished and I wonder if Alex Rider would really be the hero. I hope that my hero would succeed and come back safely.

Giver-Blog post #1

We started reading the book called 'Giver' after we finished 'White Mountain'. This book is quite interesting because this world in Giver is just perfect. It has no danger or any kind of unsafety place that might injure or hurt the citizens who live there. My groupmates whose names are James, Catherine and Chloe(Who was in my every single Liturature group Mr.Thomas). We started off with our passages about how the story would go and we also discussed some of the important passages in the story. It was really fun and there were barely any discussions that were out of the topic. When Mr. Thomas allowed us to move on to our questions and answers, my group started straight away and discussed sort of in a enthusiastic way. We had some interesting questions and of course, as we were sharing our answers, there were several objections that were made and discussed until the correct answers were found. Actually, I think that all the questions my group shared was really creative and I could see that they put some thought into the question as they were making it. We didn't share our vocabularies or maybe didn't GET to share our vocabularies because Mr. Thomas stopped us and moved onto the other assignment. This discussion was really fun and I hope they would be just like today's discussion and flow flexibly and nicely.

White Mountain-Blog post Final

I think that after Will and his friends reached the White Mountain, they would be part of the team to fight the Tripods and they will have missions like Ozymandias. The people in White Mountain would try to invent the bomb when they hear that Will had once destroyed a Tripod with a bomb. I think in the end, they will have a war with a Tripods but I think that one of Will's friends (Henry or Beanpole) would die on the process. However, Will and the poeple from White Mountain would win there would be no cappings or Tripods anymore. I am sure that the story would end with a happy moment where there is no ruling of the Tripods and then, Jack would be free and so would be others.
